Parnell Quinn has been in real estate for 35 years. He started working in the real estate industry in 1986 with his dad and older brother. After years working as an individual agent, Parnell partnered with Megan Luther in 2011 and they established The Simple Life with the goal of simplifying real estate transactions for Buyers, Sellers, and Agents. Parnell has been the face of The Simple Life for over 10 years but has recently accepted a new position at eXp Commercial. Parnell sat down for an interview to discuss how his involvement with The Simple Life has changed and to talk about what he is looking forward to in his new position as Designated Managing Broker at eXp Commercial Colorado.
What does this new position mean for The Simple Life?
There isn’t much that will change at The Simple Life because of the people and systems we have in place and I will continue to be a mentor and help train agents for the company; I’m simply shifting my focus to help grow the commercial real estate industry in Colorado. For so many years, it was just Megan and I doing everything at The Simple Life. We did all the marketing, agent recruiting and training, listing presentations, showings, and contract writing by ourselves. As we started to build our company, I planned to become more of a consultant for The Simple Life. After we started to hire additional agents, it felt like the right time to transition into that role. At first, it was difficult to give my previous role to someone else, but knowing Megan was still at the helm, and having worked to develop a training and mentor program within the company, I finally felt ready to hand over more of my responsibilities. We have multiple agents that are now working with Megan to support and train our newer agents so that one day they can lead teams of their own.
What is your new position at eXp Commercial?
I am now the Designated Managing Broker at eXp Commercial Colorado. After Jes Eckhart, the Residential Employing Broker at eXp Realty for the State of Colorado, recommended me for the position, my record for commercial real estate was reviewed and I later had an interview with the Commercial Division at eXp. Right now I’m managing other commercial agents, helping them with their contracts, listings, negotiations, and anything else they might need. The hardest part has been figuring out all of the technology eXp uses. I feel like I’m learning how to use a new program every day. Technology aside, I’m happy to be working with eXp to change the face of commercial real estate. I sincerely believe that eXp is one of the best real estate brokerages out there which is why I chose to work with them.
How does your transition affect The Simple Life?
Not much is changing for The Simple Life because Megan is still there, and I still work as a consultant for them. On a daily basis, I’m focused on the commercial real estate side of things, but I’m still around to lead training days, offer guidance, reinforce core values, and work with our other departments. The people we’ve recently hired are actually becoming stronger agents because they aren’t able to rely on me to do all of the work for them. It has been difficult to not be as involved with building The Simple Life because I truly care about our agents and I want them to succeed, but it is going well. Since we are all under eXp, I am still working in the same office so I get to celebrate wins with the agents and get to know them on a more personal level. I’m really excited to see all of the agents grow and become a group of well-trained professionals that can help spread the idea of “The Simple Life.”
Parnell is adamant that The Simple Life agents will be held to the same standard to which he holds himself. He is excited to see The Simple Life growing at the rate it is and can’t wait to see how well the agents do this year.
